2020 Pepper Preview

With each passing day, the plants are getting stronger. Many of our peppers are sprouting their third and fourth sets of leaves!

But we know that the question on everyone’s mind is… “what pepper varieties will you be offering when the spring plant sale kicks off this weekend?” Let’s meet the peck of them, shall we?

On the sweet side of things, we’ve brought back two of our customer favorites, the California Wonder and our Picnic Pepper variety. The California Wonder is a sweet bell pepper that starts out green but can be left on the plant until it turns red. These plants offer thick walled fruits that are great on veggie trays, added to your favorite stir fry dishes, and more.

Our Picnic Pepper variety has been another favorite. These plants produce tons of peppers and the flavors vary from slightly tart to super sweet. Eat them straight off the plant, toss into salads, or slice onto sandwiches… you can’t go wrong!

Moving over to our spicy varieties, we’ve kept some customer favorites and added a couple new options based on your feedback. Back this year are the popular Hungarian Hot Wax and Early Jalapeno. You’ll likely remember the Hungarian Hot Wax from previous seasons for its long fruits that range in color from pale yellow to red. These peppers are made for canning but are also really versatile for your favorite recipes. One customer even told us how she stuffs them with chorizo and bakes them in salsa!

Early Jalapeno is another customer favorite — these are the plants that just keep giving. With early fruits and production all summer long, you’ll always have fresh peppers for your favorite salsas and appetizers (Jalapeno poppers off the grill anyone?).

Last but not least, we’re offering two new varieties… the Shishito is a mild Japanese pepper that is good for roasting and frying. This pepper is ideal for those who’d like to add a little spice to their dishes but want to keep things conservative. On the opposite end of the spectrum, we’ve added the Hot Paper Lantern Habanero. These plants boast early fruit in a distinctive red color that are sure to light things up on your menu.

We can’t begin to tell you how excited we are to share these plants with you and hear about your own gardens this summer. Just a few more days until the plant sale!
