Meet the Grower

Meet the Grower

Last month, you met two of our youngest growers and we’re just tickled with the warm response you had for them. This month, we’d like to introduce two more of our growers — Carter and Sam. Both Carter and Sam were big parts of your summer season produce and while Carter is now back to school, Sam is still a regular at the farm.

Carter G.

Carter has been a friend of our family for a few yeas now and we were happy to have him growing with us this summer. He told us that his favorite job is laying straw on the beds – which makes sense because he is a straw BOSS. In fact, without Carter’s help, a great deal of the straw that kept our crops from completely flooding out this summer wouldn’t have been laid in time!

While Carter’s least favorite job was hoeing, he was always happy to take on the work when it meant caring for his favorite produce from the farm – tomatoes!

When he’s not farming, Carter enjoys boating, playing volleyball with friends, watching sports, and relaxing outside. He also enjoys journaling but was humble enough to admit that he doesn’t do it as often as he’d like.

Samantha (Sam) S.

When we asked Sam what she enjoyed best about farming, she told us, “I value local, organic, sustainable agriculture. My hands never feel better than when they’re covered in dirt, connected with the Earth. My spirit thrives amongst kind, like-minded individuals that accept my authenticity.” If Carter is the Straw Boss, Sam would have to be our tomato trellising queen. Not only is trellising her favorite job on the farm, she has a knack for knocking out entire rows of tomatoes in no time flat – which is pretty amazing since our plant sin the high tunnel reach the roof!

In addition to working at the farm, Sam enjoys growing growing her CBD business, teaching yoga and meditation, and traveling. A helper at heart, Sam has also been studying psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy.

If you find Sam out in the field, she’s most likely to be munching on her favorite vegetable (kale) and listening to cheap thriller audiobooks or podcasts about mindfulness.
